Oceana SeaChange Summer Party 2012

I had the privilege of being invited to the 5th annual Oceana SeaChange Party in gorgeous Laguna Beach this past weekend.  This event was hosted by actor Ted Danson, the granddaughter of Jacques Cousteau, Alexandra Cousteau, and the All State commercial guy.  Sorry; I was too busy eating dinner when they announced his name and all I could remember was his voice in those commercials. O_o

"You're in good hands with All State..." lol

The Oceana SeaChange Party has always been a fun event, with celebrities, silent auctions, performances, and special martini bars.  This year, they honored Morgan Freeman, and had other guests attend, such as Kate Walsh (Private Practice),  Emmanuelle Chriqui (Entourage), Angie Harmon, Angela Kinsey (The Office), Aimee Teegarden (Friday Night Lights), Ed Begley Jr, Jenna Ushkowitz (Glee), Trevor Donovan (90210), Kristin Bauer (True Blood), Bella Thorne (Disney), Sarah Shahi (Fairly Legal), Rachael Harris (The Hangover) and Steve Howey (Shameless), along with other celebrity guests.  I had to laugh because the one person I had to get a photo with was Bella Thorne from the Disney show "Shake It Up".  My son had seen her show, and I was eager to send the photo to him.  (Of course, writing that my 11yr old son watches a Disney show on Instagram was uber-embarrasing to him!)

With the very sweet and gracious Bella Thorne

These gymnasts that served as one of the entertainment for the evening cracked me up.  I had enough martinis by then to start giggling, "Look where his head is!!!"  Ugh, I'm all about class sometimes...

But all joking aside, the Oceana Foundation focuses on saving the ocean to feed the world.  Due to overfishing (25 countries control 75% of the world's fish catch) and bycatch (living creatures that are caught unintentionally by fishing gear.  Unwanted bycatch is usually thrown back into the water. However, handling and exposure sometimes injure the bycatch, which may die after being discarded. Although this discard may serve as food for other species when it is thrown back, it is not recruited into, and does not become a part of, the reproducing population. As a result, discard not only affects the current population, but influences the species' opportunity to replenish itself), the health of the ocean population and that of the more than billion people that are dependant on it to feed them is in jeopardy.  Oceana strives to ensure that the seafood we eat and the water we swim in are healthy for us and for the ocean creatures.  This evening, the foundation successfully raised over $1.1 million dollars for Oceana.

Stolichnaya Elit Martini Bar

Loved that the Stolichnaya Elit company flew in this ice carver from New York to hand carve large circular ice cubes.  Very chic!  I swear my martinis tasted better with these nifty ice cubes.  ;)

My last lemon mint martini at the afterparty!

I always love a good afterparty.  They had a neat coffee bar, dessert station, and DJ, but my favorite thing at the end of the night was the Stolichnaya Elit Martini bar.  The flavor of the vodka was crisp and clean, and although I'm normally a gin girl, the Elit was a refreshing liquor for both the traditional and the lemon mint martinis I had to cap off the evening!
